REEL TALK: A spotlight on independent films
The Sundance Institute Presents "Film Forward" - Advancing Cultural Dialogue
Film Forward is a cultural exchange program designed to enhance cross-cultural understanding, collaboration, and dialogue around the globe by engaging audiences through the exhibition of film and conversation with filmmakers. Films are showcased through embassies, museums, and cultural and education centers reaching a wide demographic of rural and urban communities. In 2010/11, 10 filmmakers from seven countries will visit China, France, Kenya, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey and Uganda, as well as Arizona, Michigan, Mississippi, New York, Puerto Rico, Tennessee, and Washington, DC.
I had the privelege of chatting with actress Kerry Washington, Sundance Institute's Executive Director Keri Putnam, as well as Director and Screenwriter of the film "Boy" Taika Waititi. We discussed the importance of bridging the cultural gap through film and the goal of this inaugural initiative.
